Sen. Barack Obama picked up 19 delegates, five more than Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, in Mississippi’s Democratic primary Tuesday. With 99 percent of the vote counted, Obama had 61 percent to 37 percent for Clinton.

Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton carefully evaded questions about the scandal involving Eliot Spitzer, her home state governor and a superdelegate.

“I don’t have any comment on that. Obviously I am sending my best wishes and thoughts to the governor and to his family,” Clinton said.

If Spitzer resigns, he would not be replaced as a superdelegate, according to the Democratic National Committee.

Democrat Barack Obama ridiculed talk by Hillary Rodham Clinton that he could run as her vice presidential nominee, saying that voters must choose between the two for the top spot.

“I don’t know how somebody who is in second place is offering the vice presidency to the person who is first place,” Obama said, drawing cheers and a long standing ovation from about 1,700 people in Columbus, Miss.
