Friday night features the radio broadcast of The Metropolis Ensemble and Deerhoof recorded live at Celebrate Brooklyn on July 18th. It was an exciting concert, and the broadcast begins at 8 pm. What’s it sound like?
Saturday evening you’ll hear guitar virtuosity from Django Reinhardt to John McLaughlin. What’s it sound like?
Sunday evening you’ll hear a 21st Century setting of poetry from the 1st Century BC. What’s it sound like?
I’m interested in what we perceive and understand when we listen without preconception and prejudice. What’s it sound like? How does it strike you? What’s your process of perception? Clear your mind, open your ears, and leave a comment in general or specific terms, poetic or impressionistic, descriptive or metaphorical, short or long. I’m interested in reactions that go beyond “I like it” or “I don’t like it.”
React to what you’re hearing with a few words, and indicate either what music you’re listening to, or what day/time you’re listening. I’ll read your evocative responses on the air.

The Rite of Spring a la Brooklyn was a travesty..poor Stravinsky must have been spinning in his grave. Please get out of Brooklyn ASAP. Thank you, David, for many years of innovative programming, but this time the “music” crossed over the line.

I think poor Stravinsky may have been DANCING in his grave, especially if he stuck around for Deerhoof. He couldn’t help but dance!
And speaking of dancing, this soundtrack to Brideshead Revisited “sounds like” sunlight dancing on a lake.

Django sounds like abandon - no tomorrow, just the moment, and let’s enjoy it while we’re here.

greatly enjoying the django and bix compositions–each strangely melancholic coming from musicians who derived their livings from playing uptempo dance music. david, please post the CDs on which these works can be found and thank you for the thoughtful programming.

The Incredible String Band ~ Very Cool…
They’re one of the trippiest bands to see in concert, especially in a small venue. They would dress up in costumes, masks…miming with puppets, & whatever to visually show & tell the story of their music. Wow ~

David,
The 88 drummers show is at the Williamsburg waterfront on Kent Ave. and N. 8th Street, not the Brooklyn Bridge park at the Brooklyn side of the Brooklyn Bridge.

Dear David,
My husband and I love the sound of your speaking voice, We used to SO enjoy it when you would read Edgar Allen Poe on Halloween. I told Terence McKnight that I haped he would get you on to continue (resume?)the tradition… even if Haloween is not on a weekend. It goes without saying, however, that the main reason for listeneng is your choice of music. Glad you had a fine vacation. If you decide to ever change careers, you should consider photography. The photos of Maine a great!
