On Demand
Deerhoof/Metropolis Live
By David Garland

You’ll hear me on WNYC-FM only on Saturday night this weekend. On Friday I hosted a live webcast of a Celebrate Brooklyn!/Wordless Music concert in Prospect Park.
Deerhoof’s Satomi Matsuzaki

The performers were The Metropolis Ensemble playing The Rite Remixed (a take on Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring), and the startling, rollicking band Deerhoof (it was a blast!). The entire concert will be available for on-demand streaming at both wnyc.org and NPR Music. FM listeners will get to hear this concert, too, when it’s broadcast on Friday, August 1st. |
| On Sunday night at 8PM, listeners can hear pianist Lang Lang performing Rachmaninoff in a special edition of Performance Today, “Live from Aspen.” Fred Child hosts the concert, which also features guitarist Sharon Isbin in some South American works, and in selections from Howard Shore’s music for Martin Scorsese’s film “The Departed.” | ![]() Lang Lang |
And where will I be Sunday? It’s this thing that happens sometimes in summer; I like to call it—vacation. But I’ll be back with you next Friday.
In the meantime, here are some pictures I took of last night’s concert (click a thumbnail to view full size). You can view more photos on WNYC’s Flickr page at this link.

David, will the webcast be archived at any point? I was at the show last night and would love to hear it again.
