“Going Places (Doing Stuff)” is a group bus adventure led by artists and arranged by the Flux Factory gallery and arts collective. Last Saturday, a bus full of folks scheduled for a “Going Places (Doing Stuff)” tour received this e-mail.

Dear friends and fellow adventurers,

Welcome to this week’s tour “EVERYTHING SHOULD BE SEEN”, by Moses Gates.

TOUR DURATION: Full day trip, starting at 9am and most likely going till 8 or 9pm. Time flies when you’re having fun.
WEAR: Comfortable shoes, clothes you don’t mind getting (very) dirty.
BRING: Money, snacks, plenty of water, booze and your best singing voice.

Please respond to this email and let me know whether you will attend or not, seating is limited and there’s a waiting list.

Thank you,

Jean Barberis
Curator, Flux Factory

So I arrived, as planned, at 9am, and over the course of the day found myself admiring the Wave Hill Gardens in Riverdale, wringing out my hair in an abandoned subway station off the Major Deegan Expressway, eating prosciutto at Mike’s Deli in Arthur Avenue, wondering though the empty halls of the Maritime Museum at SUNY, cheering at the Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival in Flushing Meadows, ordering sour apple ice at the Lemon Ice King of Corona, and admiring the view from a roof top bar in the Upper East Side. It was quite the day!

Wow, that sounds like quite an experience. Really great story — I felt like I was there! Especially interesting was when the man showed you his favorite piece of graffiti in the abandoned subway station — it was a poignant moment. Keep up the great work!

I loved the small details in this story: the sound of the rain, the plastic bag over the microphone, and especially Mike’s passion for cheese.

That was great! Perfect for those folks always looking for the “neat” thing to do in NYC, esp newcomers to the city. NYers comm would dig it.
